He is the son of the celebrated lyricist Giulio Rapetti, known as Mogol, and the grandson of Mariano Rapetti, also a songwriter. Alongside his musical training, he developed an interest in the visual arts from a young age, attending the Scuola del Fumetto in Milan and working in the publishing sector.

From the 1980s onwards, he established himself as a songwriter under the pseudonym Cheope, collaborating with some of the leading figures in Italian and international music. Writing thus became the primary tool through which Rapetti constructed his artistic identity.

From music to painting

In the 1990s, Rapetti increasingly felt the need to transfer his experience with the word into the field of visual arts. In 1996, he joined the studio of artists Alessandro Algardi and Mario Arlati, with whom he deepened his pictorial research and developed a personal reflection on the relationship between writing and image.

Painting was therefore born not as an activity separate from writing, but as its natural extension. Word and image became two complementary ways of representing thought, memory and personal experience.

Writing as pictorial matter

The hallmark of Rapetti Mogol’s research is the use of writing as a visual element. Through a technique defined as impuntura, the artist intervenes on the surface of the canvas by incising, tracing or overlapping words and signs until they become an integral part of the pictorial matter.

His early works are often characterised by monochrome surfaces, mainly white or black, on which apparently indecipherable writings appear. The word progressively loses its narrative function and becomes sign, rhythm, trace and memory.

Word, memory and identity

In Rapetti Mogol’s painting, writing does not necessarily communicate a literal meaning. The text is deprived of its usual function and transformed into a kind of visual language, in which what matters is not only what is written, but the very gesture of writing.

The surfaces, often characterised by layering, abrasions and transparencies, thus become places of memory. The word appears, is erased, covered or made partially legible, creating a tension between what can be understood and what remains hidden.

Exhibition history and recognition

Parallel to his musical career, Rapetti Mogol has developed a significant exhibition practice. His works have been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, in venues including Villa Olmo in Como, the Albergo delle Povere in Palermo, the Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula, the KMG Foundation in Berlin and the Grand Palais in Paris. He has also participated in several editions of the Venice Biennale, including those in 2001 and 2007. His artistic activity thus develops along a double trajectory, in which music and painting remain constantly linked by the centrality of the word.

["post-904","artisti","type-artisti","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
